Dennis Dale (Denny) McLain played professional baseball for 12 years (1962-1973) and Major League Baseball for 10 seasons (1963-1972). Denny was signed by the Detroit Tigers in 1963. Upon signing with the Chicago White Sox, he was assigned to the Harlan (KY) Smokies of the Appalachian League. He promptly threw a No Hitter in his first professional start with 16 strikeouts. From there he moved through the minor leagues quickly. In 1968, he had one of the greatest seasons a pitcher has had in the last century. Denny had a record of 31-6, with a 1.96 ERA, 280 strikeouts, 28 complete games and 6 shutouts. He is the only player to win the A.L. MVP and Cy Young Award unanimously in the same season. Denny is the only pitcher since 1934 to win 30 games in a season, and one of only 11 to win 30 in the 20th century.
Cory Schlesinger ’s biggest moment of glory came when he scored two touchdowns in the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ 27-17 win over Miami in the 1995 Orange Bowl that sealed the national championship for the Cornhuskers. But the hard-hitting fullback with a reputation for breaking facemasks carried with him a history of a highly successful high school career. Schlesinger was the Omaha World-Herald’s high school athlete of the year after earning all-state honors in football and winning back-to-back state wrestling championships in his junior and senior years. Schlesinger compiled a 64-3 record on the wrestling mat those years. A linebacker and running back for the Discoverers, he rushed for 1,504 yards his senior season. At Nebraska, he started for two years at fullback. Schlesinger went on to play in the NFL for the Detroit Lions for 12 years and was an alternate Pro Bowl selection three times.
Michigan Autobots Entertainment came down for the event and took a ton of pictures with our guests. They were definitely more than meets the eye! Standing over 8ft tall, and suited with LED lights. It was easy to spot these giants walking around, meeting everyone and showing why they are something you don't want to miss!
